Review of Donnie Darko (2001) by Ryan M — 28 May 2014
An original and fresh psychological thriller, Donnie Darko is a fantastic indie flick with a very eerie vibe to it. Originally skeptical about seeing it, I was surprised that I liked it a whole lot. What I found interesting was it's very smart script that mixes fantasy, sci-fi, and horror with a comedic relief to it and its sharp direction from Richard Kelly.
But I feel all of the credit should be given to Jake Gyllenhaal as the titular character who really delivers a very creepy performance as the tormented teen. As well a Frank the Rabbit who should be ranked as amongst the best villains in cinema.
Donnie Darko is dark and thrilling movie and should be watched by anyone who is a fan of the psychological genre.
