Review of Donnie Brasco (1997) by Jeff B — 24 Mar 2011
Look here, I 'aint no stand-in guy... I don wanna be whacked or nuthin but this movie is for wiseguys, you know whatti mean? Fuggedaboutit! The screenplay was laughable, the music was beautiful, the story was different & the acting was really good.
I'm kind of struggling on giving it a three star or three and a half because I thought some elements in this film were really good but then PERSONALLY I didn't feel as moved as I should have been.
I loved seeing Pacino in a character in a lower 'position' in the mafia. Something different, but, he was still golden! I actually really liked that it didn't focus on 'bosses' and what not.
I thought the film really captured a great relationship that the two men felt with each other! Tough love, yeah? The screenplay... I just couldn't stand, though haha. One scene also bothered me, but, I can't remember what it was.
.. it just was incredibly awkward for me to watch Pacino & Depp stand around awkwardly talking to eat other by the car haha. Like I had said, I wasn't moved as much as I should have been. The film could have done a lot better and had so much potential.
Because of that, the OVERALL film, I think, is a 3 star thing. If it only had the UMPH. I wish I could give it more, but it was seriously lacking... a shame because I did enjoy some elements (one of my favorites WAS the acting).
