Donkey Punch is an average Brit Horror/Thriller that is in now way original but still manages to be entertaining enough. The direction is excellent and the entire production is very well made but sadly the screenplay is disappointing with very poor acting and characters doing ridiculous things.

The plot revolves around three girls on holidays in Spain that meet a group of guys on the beach. They all head back to the yacht the guys are working on and decide to take it out to see to have a party. Cue lots of drug taking and sex scenes. This section takes up a good 45 mins and is very forgettable. When the titular sex act goes wrong and one of the girls is accidentally killed the film picks up a lot. It's the real setting of plot, this could conceivably happen to any of us, that makes the film tense. In a Lord of the Flies kind of way, everyone turns on each other because of paranoia. Sadly the film is largely predictable and some characters actions are downright stupid. It is interesting to watch such a real life incident unfold but it all gets increasingly unlikely until the VERY unlikely conclusion.

The effects are very good and it is all put together brilliantly but the bad acting, largely annoying characters and predictable situations drags it all down. Still it is an interesting enough film once you get past the opening 45 minutes and is largely entertaining. You will have seen it all before though.
