Review of Don Verdean (2015) by Thad C — 28 Mar 2016
This film could have used some more focused energy and flow in the second half, but overall I enjoyed it, and had some good laughs. The cast overall weren't used to their full potential, but were great nonetheless.
Jemaine Clement was absolutely hilarious. I don't think he's capable of not being funny. He was definitely the source of most of the humor in this film. I'm a huge fan of Danny McBride, I just wish he got to shine a little more in this film.
That's the only problem really. It seemed muffled. I also am personally a fan of religious satire, and I find it interesting that the Hess duo made this film, being members of the Mormon church. Especially the part with the holy grail being guarded by native Americans in Utah.
Kind of reminiscent of the origins of the Mormon doctrine. Indirectly poking fun at their own church? Anyway, if you're a fan of Hess films, you'll probably enjoy it.
