Review of Don Juan DeMarco (1994) by Katie S — 23 Feb 2008

This remains one of my favorite fluffy movies. It's cute and silly, and the first time you see it, the mystery of whether this young man who thinks he's Don Juan is an interesting and original storyline. Once the mystery is solved, however, the fabulously silly purple prose easily holds up to repeat viewings. (As does Johnny himself, naturally.).

Why is Marlon Brando in this movie? This role doesn't present much of a challenge to him, so I suspect that, perhaps, he's only in it for Johnny Depp. (Hey, that would be enough reason for me to sign on to a project.) He is quoted as saying Johnny is the most talented actor of his generation. I don't know whether that came before or after this film, but perhaps he wanted the chance to work together.
