Review of Don Jon (2013) by David S — 10 Apr 2014
It is enjoyable to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt create a movie such as Don Jon and have it be as poignant and real as it is about relationships, love, and people. Toying with the line of religious obligations verses true religious actions, as well as sex and porn addiction, this movie hones in on the differences between what we think we want and expect, as opposed to what we truly want and need.
Using gratuitous means and a unique style of direction, Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes it clear what he wants to achieve in Don Jon, and he does it quite well. It is an impressive, enjoyable, and a tongue-in-cheek movie that definitely hits on some solid points without being too preachy.
