Review of Don Jon (2013) by Matt L — 20 May 2014
Amusing film that I enjoyed mostly for its ending: a slightly older woman with a younger man romance! We have Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon L), a casanova with a sense of entitlement at the fact that when he goes to clubs he expects to get the woman that catches his eyes home with him and he usually does. However; sex with women does not compare to his pornography addiction- that is what he prefers. So after meeting the girl of his dreams named Barbara (Scarlett Johansson), he realizes her expectations of a relationship does not involve watching porno sights frequently along with other things. While at the university he meets another classmate named Esther (Julianne Moore) who truly teaches him the meaning of sex and intimacy. Mary Pols of Time Magazine said it best: "At least 80% of it is snappy, droll fluff, while the other 20% is what you get when you persuade Julianne Moore to be in your movie: in a word, better.".
Men and boys- a slightly older woman will beat a younger one in terms of experience, maturity, financial stability, assertiveness and yes sex. Recommended!
