Review of Don Jon (2013) by Scott I — 30 May 2014
While an admirable directorial debut for Gordon Levitt, it's simply not that good a film. Didn't hold my interest for all that long. The story of a man's addiction to pornography and it holding him back in finding a true and meaningful relationship in his life would I'm sure make for an interesting movie somewhere.
..just not here. Gordon Levitt is fine, and it's nice to see Tony Danza back on the big screen, but Johansson sounds as if her entire research for the film was to hang out with the Real Housewives of New Jersey/New York/ Long Island.
Julianne Moore brings some sadness and realism to her role, but it's not enough to save this from being pretty dull.
