Review of Dom Hemingway (2013) by Emily C — 17 Apr 2014
Well folks, the writers/producers made a huge mistake by making the distasteful, over-the-top Dom 75 percent of the film. They needed to compress scenes with the angry side of the character into the first half of the film (at least) and expand the interactions he had with his daughter and her family in the second half.
The film hints at redemption, but the fact that he's a thief to the end doesn't convince us. I love Hemingway's creative dialogue and it shows there are two sides to the man. They also could have done much more with the idea of adjusting to technology etc after being in the slammer for 12 years.
It's an OK film, but don't pay top dollar for it. It's not the man-overcomes-incredible-odds film I was hoping for.
