Review of Dolphin Tale 2 (2014) by Orlando O — 27 Dec 2014

Dolphin Tale 2 a family drama film about a true story on a dolphin named Winter, who has to be paired with another dolphin to improve their health condition. Literally, that is the movies main plot about a group of marine biologist and a CMA staff trying to figure out a way to pair Winter with another dolphin. The predecessor was actually heartfelt and had a warming story of Winter recovering after losing his tail and a story of hope for an amputee dolphin and the courage that brought amputee victims. Although, the sequel just felt like a unneeded sequel. Sure, it is going to be warming for kids about them trying to make Winter feel better after his condition of being alone.

The script did not add anything new to what the last movie offered and just felt like a add on of a smaller story. There is a couple of sub plots seeing Sawyer (Nathan Gamble) hesitating on taking a SEA semester program that can leave him further from Winter. Then, Hazel (Cozi Zuehlsdordd) wanting to be more responsible and involved in the aquarium which her father Dr. Clay (Harry Connick, Jr) soon gives her the action to take charge. Does all these developments tie the characters together? No, the movie never tries too either but focuses in trying to keep the movie charming for kids. Dolphin Tale 2 manages to slip away from being a worthy sequel but resulting in a movie that feels unneeded.
