Review of Dolores Claiborne (1995) by Angie M — 02 Sep 2007
The tension between a mother and her daughter is caught in the undercurrents of a chilling story that unfolds as the movie progresses. The juxtaposition of the past with the present is quite an excellent form of film editing. Kathy Bates is praiseworthy as the outspoken title character. Judy Parfitt manages to be subtly funny and hauntingly ruthless at the same time.
The climax scene where Selena confronts Det. Mackey was, in my opinion, the weakest portion of the entire movie. While brilliantly acted by all actors, the writing and dialogues were very weak. Neither were the details of the case presented convincingly nor was the detective's sudden change in heart.
