Review of Dolores Claiborne (1995) by Eddie R — 13 Mar 2010

I only got round to seeing this film recently (2010), even though it came out in 1995! I'm also a big Stephen King fan but have never read this book.

Well I'm pretty glad I resolved that situation, but really annoyed that I didn't do it sooner, as this is a great movie, quite unlike a lot of King's work in that there's nothing supernatural or scary going on. Kathy Bates gives a brilliant performance as Dolores, which King apparently wrote for her having seen her awesome turn in Misery, and Jennifer Jason Leigh, usually quite an average actress, also matces her for quality in what is quite a talky film, with not much action. Not that this is in any way a bad thing, as they both keep you glued to the screen - and the story is played out slowly, so you don't see what's coming until the director is good and ready.

If you haven't seen this film yet, do yourself a favour & do so. If you haven't seen it for a while, watch it again. You won't be disappointed.
