Review of Dolores Claiborne (1995) by Gaz U — 06 Apr 2008
If you want to see the best Stephen King adaptation there is (apart from Shawshank Redemption) then check this out. This is an incredibly haunting and affecting film, drowning in its own haunting hues and sadness.
The tale of an afflicted mother, and less than understanding daughter translates beautifully to screen with Kathy Bates turning in the best performance of her career. I seriously recommend this to film buffs as an example of a supremely underatted film with brilliant use of cinematic techniques not just for flavour or texture, but to really enhance the narrative without being distracted.
Note the grade of past and present. Beautiful and terrifically sad.
