Review of Dogville (2003) by Vanya M — 12 Apr 2012
Von Trier's strange sense of justice reminded me of Animal Farm. How the village/community united in greed only to produce tragedy was a bleek outlook on the so called "Young American" montage in the closing credits. Then to have them all taken care of gangster fashion was odd to say the least.
The single theatrical, minimalist set was an interesting change for film.
Regarding plot, I do not agree that almost every man in the film will sleep with the protagonist (even if it is Kidman), but then again I also do not agree with Von Trier's characters in most of his works since I do not identify with their morals. It's frustrating to see that are their morals are the reason for their dilemmas. An interesting but also sad experience.
