Review of Dogville (2003) by Zack M — 09 Jul 2008
I thought the ensemble cast had a great deal of chemistry together and it made the whole film feel very authentic. Nicole Kidman shines in this film in a way that I've never seen her shine before. She has proven her worth as an actress here and I think she deserves an applause.
I also really like the set design. I thought it was really cool how it felt like I was watching live theater. The editing made this a really interesting piece to watch as it used french new wave tendencies like jump cutting during almost inappropriate moments such as the middle of a characters monologue.
Rather than interrupt and confuse the scene, I think it make it very interesting. It doesn't seem to have much of a rhetorical effect other than how it was originally intended but I don't recall quite what the point of it was in the first place other than to be french.
The costumes were fantastic, and everything seemed totally appropriate. All in all, this is a must for any film fans collection.
