Review of Dogville (2003) by Louis B — 09 Aug 2008
The three hours actually went by fairly quickly. The minimalist approach was like nothing else I have seen, and is effective in that it focuses our attention keenly on the superb performances. As the film marches on the overarching theme does get a bit tiresome at times as the audience is repeatedly assaulted with it.
The ending is, well, (I hate even a clue of a spoiler, so I'll just say...) appropriate. Worth seeing once for sure, though I doubt I'll be seeing this one again. Doesn't mean it isn't worth my four stars though.
