Review of Dogville (2003) by Stephen S — 21 May 2011
Dogville was a little different than what I anticipated going in. I read the plot synopsis but had no idea this would be acted out more like a play. I wondered whether this type of experiment could work and the answer is yes it can.
Dogville is kind of a long movie but I did not feel as if I was watching a three hour movie. The beginning of Dogville may as well have been a PG or G rated movie. After seeing Anti-Christ I was wondering what happened to the Lars von Trier I know. Things begin to change and Dogville slowly becomes one of the darkest movies I have ever seen.
The story is remarkable and pretty soon you forget that the scenery is missing and your mind fills in the rest. My main complaint is that while most of the time this works sometimes you see things that throw you out of the movie. I liked Dogville but still would like to see a remake of this filmed like a real movie.
