Review of Dogville (2003) by Ian P — 04 Mar 2012
I watched this with no preformed ideas of it's content, just based on how much I liked Von Triers later movie, 'Melancholia'.
It's at times a bit ponderous and dull, but overall this is an amazing exercise in story and character, and the unpleasant nature of people. The lack of scenery makes the viewer focus intently on the actors, who I think are probably aware of this and overcompensate occasionally, but overall it's an amazing, uncomfortable expose of what darker things lurk within us.
