Review of Dogville (2003) by Iain M — 13 Jun 2012
A beautiful example of how an interesting story with wonderful performances can hold a film without lavish sets or huge production budgets. it is easy to see how some would feel cheated by the style/form that is obviously an immediate part of this film, however it really evokes the idea of imaginative childhood play for those who are willing to take an active role in the reading of this film.
The story and characterisation within are well tempered and the subtle, measured and focused performances produce a brilliant piece of film. The desire for stability, sex, power, secrecy and love play out in a simple tail of humanity's various natures.
It's not too long, it just is long - you will either love it or hate it.
