Review of Dogtooth (2009) by Pushkar K — 18 Feb 2011
93% critical acclaim, winner at Cannes and Best Foreign Film nomination at Oscar. I just want to ask you one question, are you as mad as the family shown here? Dogtooth is bizarre, insane, sick, pornographic, shocking, brutal, psychopathic, weird and I can go on and on.
But with all these adjectives, Dogtooth is above all very engaging and darkly funny but surely not enough for all this appreciation. One of the best thing about Dogtooth is its every single frame is weird, like a family photograph of some mentally challenged people.
Every dialogue is delivered like a tourists handbook or a salesman's speech. But all this is too exhausting for 90minutes of its runtime. Plus the ending of the film is on very high mode, leaving you quite disappointed.
Dogtooth is strictly not for family viewing, unless your parents are as insane as these people. If you are a experimental film fan, you can give it a shot. Some good laughs guaranteed!
