Review of Dogtooth (2009) by Philip H — 19 Jan 2011
This film is a commentary on the power parental figures have over their children, and how if used irresponsibly this power can greatly distort a child's outlook on life.
This film reminds me of 70s foreign art films. It has a splash of French New Wave, but also brings to mind the films of Pier Palo Passolini, specifically Salo. Despite Dogtooth's twisted premise and dark imagery, the film maintains a sense of humor which makes it easier to watch. Regardless, Giorgos Lanthimo has crafted a powerful film, that will be hard to forget.
