Review of Dogtooth (2009) by Nick D — 28 Jan 2011
Disturbing, uncomfortable, and eerie. One of those movies that can be analyzed by psychologists for not only its subject matter but for human conditioning as a whole. Raises numerous questions about how human conditioning can be taken so far as completely cutting people off from society and the effect it has on that person.
Christos Stergioglou plays an outstanding character who in the end leaves it to the audience if he is a monster or someone who truly cares about his family to the point of completely changing their vocabulary, limiting the outside sources they are exposed to, and conditions them to be complete zombies in humanity.
The small cast allows some heavy character examination that the audience can not help but want to dig deeper. Extremely disturbing because it actually could be a true story.
