Review of Dogtooth (2009) by Louis F — 06 Feb 2011
WOAH. Hold the phone. Nobody told me that the Greeks made films like this.
This film is everything you've heard and also, nothing you've heard prepares you for it.
It's incredible. It's so disturbing and genuinely funny in other parts, which is even more disturbing.
Also, heads up to cat lover: They kill a cat in the movie. (Obviously, er, Hopefully?) It's not a real cat, but still, I was not expecting that.
There's so much going on in this movie, I'm going to leave it up to the wiser minds at Cineaste to dissect it. It's like "Visitor Q" meets "Teorema" meets "Serial Mom" meets Lars Von Trier meets "Arrested Development" meets Greece.
