Review of Dogtooth (2009) by Dickie L — 19 Apr 2011
If Lars Von Trier had directed Salo without the plates of poo it would look a bit like Dogtooth, a rather straight faced, surreal dysfunctional family drama. Filmed almost entirely in one house and garden, the occupants have never let their three 20y.
O. ish offspring out of their house and they deliberately feed them lies, including the incorrect definition of words. This results in sentences like, "do you know what Dad will do if he finds out I lick your keyboard?" and "he switched off the pussy and the room became dark".
Despite the sun-splashed exteriors, this is a dark, menacing world. Definitely not everyone's cup of meat, but some will be intrigued.
