Review of Dogtooth (2009) by Troy F — 19 Jul 2011

Umm... I'm not sure what to make of this film, but I'll try my best. Dogtooth has its moments where it's fascinating in a weird way, but than transitions to some real disturbing scenes and shit that is just too fucked up.

I know it is supposed to be satirical, but I found it to be too unsettling to find it even remotely satirical in any form. Point is, I admired the concept, it's very original, but the way it was handled was up and down for me.

The idea is transformed in a way that is a little more or so off putting and makes the film more strict in terms of appeal to viewers. The ending was quite abrupt too. It was worth a watch for something different, but there's only two reasons to explain how I felt of the film: interesting but too weird, or just simply not really my area of film! I'll give it a 3 though, I at least admired some of it though I would find it difficult to watch again.
