Review of Dogtooth (2009) by William N — 22 Jul 2011
What is really remarkable about this film is the ambiguity with which it presents itself, being both realist and stylised at the same time. It leaves us wondering whether we are watching representations of a real world with real people, or if this is an allegorical nowhere-land.
This makes it original and troubling on two levels - we feel pity for these deluded, pseudo-real characters and we wonder how reliable our perceptions of our own reality are.
