Review of Dogtooth (2009) by Kenneth B — 26 Jan 2013
Dogtooth is bizarre and sometimes disturbing but it is compelling viewing. The influences are broad and diverse, personally I can see everything from 1984 to Salo and even to the work of David Lynch and Werner Herzog, I have no doubt that other people have taken other things from this film, I noticed mention of the Mexican film Castle of Purity, which seems to be rather difficult to obtain at the moment.
That's not to say that this isn't original, it is and there is an off-kilter humour which is just plain funny at times but at other times it is used to catch the audience off guard to startling effect.
This is worthy of the adulation it has received and deserves to be seen.
