Review of Dogma (1999) by Eric C — 19 Nov 2009
Greatly underrated comedy by Cathoilc director Kevin Smith. This film tends to go on with a lot more dialogue than in any other film he's ever done. Butr the comedy and acting in the film allows you to stay interested and that is what really helps the film to be successful. Also the cast is surrounded by A List actors, Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Chris Rock, Selma Hayek, Alan Rickman, Alanis Morrisette, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and George Carlin really help to juice up the hype of the film.
Along the way Kevin Smith manages to give a little Church to the people by making fun of it, a decision that had many religious groups screaming and cussing his name.
The double disc DVD is fantastic and features some great commentaries and deleted scenes and more, but what they didn't include was a documentary produced by Disney(while they were producing the film)about the making of the film. There was supposed to be a 10th Anniversary DVD re-release, but no news has been updated about this. Hopefully that documentary will find its way on that edition.
5 out of 5 stars.
