Review of Dogma (1999) by Andrew N — 27 Feb 2010
This movie is one of the funniest films I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. It's that simple. This movie is absolutely hilarious. So let's dive in.
The positives first. The acting. Yes, I just said the acting in a comedy movie was actually pretty good. Not only pretty good but absolutely amazing. Think about it. Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek and Jason Lee. That is one hell of a stacked cast. Oh wait, I'm forgetting about someone. ALAN F@*$ING RICKMAN IS IN THIS MOVIE. If that's not reason enough for you to want to see this movie I have no idea what will make you. The acting just makes this movie all the better. The plot is also surprisingly good for a comedy movie as well.
However, here is where the issues begin. This movie is VERY controversial. Why? Well because basically the entire plot is based off of mocking the Christian Religion. It's simply a massive satire of the all Christianity. I can see how people have problems with this movie but I still find it hilarious. The entire movie is a massive satire and if you understand that it's very hard to be offended by it. Truthfully, I'm not Christian and that may aid in me finding this movie absolutely hilarious but if you're easily offended please don't watch this movie. It's offensive and I really don't want to hear complaints about it from people because I happen to love and respect this level of amazing satire.
Overall, it's a damn funny movie. Absolutely amazing in its execution but quite offensive to those who carry these beliefs.
