Review of Dogma (1999) by Shelley S — 19 Jul 2010
Um...ok, so I really don't think it completely matters if your catholic or not, but then again I could see where people would get offended. But anyways, I used to be catholic, I wasn't too offended but I was a little concerned that people would get the wrong idea about catholics, because it's not like that at all and really I've never heard of people walking into a catholic church and being forigiven all of a sudden, but I guess they got that idea from confession probably. Anyway, I know this because I'm an ex-catholic, my views of religion are too open to really be a catholic. But honestly I wasn't really that offended because I thought this movie was pretty stupid.
Granted there were some parts that made perfect sense and were actually good messages, especially about the one where they were saying it doesn't so much matter what you believe in so long as you have faith. I think that is very true. Sometimes I wonder if all religion is connected and that it's all the same thing and that it just comes in different forms because of our different cultures, and this is why I'm not catholic anymore, lol. Plus they have some beliefs and rules that I don't agree with.
Anywho, back to the movie, I thought it was interesting and made some good points, but common' the shit monster!? That totally ruined the whole movie for me and the ending was kinda dumb too, I thought it was funny how God was a woman though, lol. And how she just poked bethany in the nose and said "Boop" lol. So yeah, some parts of this movie were really funny, and other parts were just ridiculous, so that's why it gets 3 stars from me.
