Review of Dogma (1999) by Skyler I — 19 Jul 2011
Dogma may well be one of writer/director Kevin Smiths best film, and as far as satirical musings on the Catholic faith go, it doesn't get much better, or as controversial, than this. The film both makes fun of and at the same time provokes questions and thoughts about Catholocism and those who follow and preach it.
The rubber poop monster also has to be one of my favorite characters ever, but it's Kevin Smiths brilliant dialogue and strong performances from the cast that really make this movie work as well as it does.
His direction and cinematography are both better than they usually are. The only problem I had with the film came to me when I perused the special features on the dvd. There were a couple of deleted scenes that really should not have been cut from the final version, even if they did make the film a bit longer.
Oh well.
