Review of Dogma (1999) by Jillian L — 17 Dec 2012
A friend told me that I needed to watch this, mostly for Alan Rickman haha. But basically, I'm speechless. For various reasons. Part of me thought this was absolutely hilarious. Another part thought this was incredibly stupid and then a last part of me thought parts were oddly poignant.
So I'm all over the place. But yes, Alan Rickman as the voice of God was awesome, he was awesome. The end. Plus there were other parts that were really funny, such as George Carlin as the Cardinal, and Chris Rock as the forgotten Apostle, as well as other various religious jabs.
Then, there was the stupid. Like the shit monster. Really? And Jay and Silent Bob...they just didn't cut it for me in this one. It still would have been just as funny without them. And I still don't know how I felt about Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's characters, honestly.
Then there were the odd moments of really poignant thoughts on religion, like things being left out, or how people view religion today. So yeah, I thought this was decent.
