Review of Doghouse (2009) by Lee R — 07 Nov 2009
This is the latest offering from Brit Director Jake West (Razor Blade Smile, Evil Aliens). Treading the same lads on a trip to the woods come under attack from evil women, comedy/horror territory as Lesbian Vampire Killers.
Doghouse however makes a much better job of it than the the other film mentioned. While more comedy than horror it is genuinly very funny. The plot centers around a group of mates deciding to drag their friend away to the country in the hope of helping him get over his impending divorce.
Most of the lads dont have a particularly modern attitude to women, especially Neil played with his usual cockney wideboy manner by Danny Dyer. Upon arriving in the town of Moodley the boys soon find that the entire male population has been murdered by the women who have become infected by some mystery virus that transforms them into Zombirds.
Basically they have become man hating cannibal freaks. The dialogue is chock full of witty banter between the characters even when under seige from the marauding women. In one scene one of the characters asks "what kinda virus would effect only women"? to which another replys "Bird flu"! Doghouse may not be in the league of Shaun of the Dead but its definately not as disapointing as Lesbian Vampire Killers.
As comedy/horror goes its well worth a watch!
