Review of Doghouse (2009) by Matthew C — 09 Apr 2010
Doghouse: While my Women On Film lecturers at University would neither by affectionate to this misogynist mess or indeed watch such male-trash, there is something endearing and charming about this low-budget and entirely sexist horror-comedy.
While it fails to reach the lowest parts of Shaun Of The Dead this is exactly the sort of film Lesbian Vampire Killer's wanted to be. A hollow splattering of laddish and un PC behaviour while blood-thirsty zombies roam the streets of a secluded English village.
The cockyness and Dyer's dialogue is cringe-worthy to say the least, as it only results in the males supremacy over the women. From the moment Dyer entitles his buddies driver 'Candy' we know precisely what chauvinistic trash we're dealing with.
What makes Doghouse enjoyable and on the right side of fresh is its care-free attitude, its simplicity and its acknowledgement of what shallow exploitative tripe it really is. Women beware, not for the faint hearted feminist.
.. 5.5/10.
