Review of Dog Soldiers (2002) by Patricia S — 04 Jul 2009
Fast-paced, but as in the Descent, a lot of chit-chatting. Marshall seems to have a thing for camaraderie among males in this film, females in the Descent. Not that it matters too much since all cast members are damn gorgeous with damn gorgeous accents.
Enough gory violence where it matters, that one jump scare with the cow really got me - ha. Very much action-oriented - it's effective knowing that trained combat- and tool-equipped soldiers are fighting for their lives, using inventive methods to survive the night. All characters are cool, the screenplay is above average, the costume design was pretty good for now, might seem cheesy in the future. Under the hands of Marshall, who's a fine horror director, Dog Soldiers works as great late night fun.
