Review of Dog Soldiers (2002) by The Critic ( — 05 Sep 2012
After a mixed bag of countless werewolf movies, Neil Marshall delivers a cinematic tale with bite, offering a fine balance of scares and laughs in the setting of the Scottish Highlands (actually Luxembourg countryside that's beautifully photographed by Sam McCurdy).
With solid performances from its testosterone-fuelled cast (Sean Pertwee and Kevin McKidd especially shine here), great special effects, sharp editing (courtesy of Marshall) and Mark Thomas' spot-on score, this is an absolute gem of a genré picture.
