Review of Dog Soldiers (2002) by Anthony M — 08 Jan 2011
Sure, Dog Soldiers comes off silly with the title and the plot of a squad of soldiers, but watching the flick will leave you in a pleasent surprise. Sorry, I didn't mean to say pleasant. What I meant was bloody and raw.
You open up with Ryan (Liam Cunningham) failing one expected hopeful after refusing to kill a dog for a special mission. Months pass by, the squad of troops go on a training exercise to battle opponents, but find the remains of a slaughter squad with Ryan as the only survivor.
Arming themselves with real guns, the squad is then attacked, but repel an enemy they can't define. They seek shelter from a passer by, Megan (Emma Cleasby), as they try to hold on till the morning.
Dog Soldiers borrows material from Night of the Living Dead, The Howling, and Zulu as they hold on battle werewolves in a silly manner, but thrilling. Dog Soldiers is a film I can recommend if you don't mind the digital camera use.
