Review of Dog Soldiers (2002) by Henrik S — 12 Mar 2011
Although there is next to no storyline in this movie, the first 30 minutes of the movie promise to be an interesting take on the classic "man vs. beast" scenario. The setup is as simple as it is effective.
A squad of Scottish military lads faces a bloodlustrous werewolf pack in the woods and the cabin in the woods (think The Evil Dead). What starts as a possible survival horror with lovecraftian elements however, turns into a blunt shoot out in the end.
The werewolves are nothing but that and the solders either survive or they don't. Disappointing. The tough love Scottish actors are a nice change from American cinema's sunnyboys, yet the (unnecessary) female character is so stereotypical and unbelievable, it could only have been written by a geeky man.
All in All, this movie might only find its lovers in genre enthusiasts.
