Review of Dog Soldiers (2002) by Jc E — 06 Nov 2010
Slick, anamalistic, and brutal are just a few words I would use to describe Dog Soldiers. Neil Marshall's take on the werewolf is a refreshing, yet classic treat for all fans of the genre.
The movie is very cleverly crafted, and knows how to push the pace. The military is sent in on a routine training run. Unfortunatley for them something far more scary, than a disgruntled military officer, is waiting for them in the thick brushes of Scotland.
Pleasantly suprised would be an understatement when talking about Dog Soldiers. With all of the rehashes, and horrible horror goo that was coming out in 2002, I found myself clinging to Dog Soldiers. Like a kid holding onto a lolipop that was being pried from his hands. Not only does this movie deliver on a modest budget, but it also entwines you with the characters and their mad dash for survival.
The acting is fantastic, the characters are believable, and it is a movie for horror fans to cherish. If you are a werewolf fan, and you find yourself looking for a good werewolf movie to sit down with. This werewolf movie is a fantastic way to have a good time!
