Review of Dog Day Afternoon (1975) by David E — 24 Aug 2013
Nominated for 6 Oscars including Best Picture (winning only Best Original Screenplay), "Dog Day Afternoon" is one tense/intense film with its dramatic acting (both Al Pacino & Chris Sarandon were nominated for Best Actor & Best Supporting Actor, respectively) & story which was based on an actual event taken 3 years prior.
Director Sidney Lumet (who was nominated for Best Director) did an unique portrayal of directing a bank robbery gone wrong & its eventual hostage situation, all the while the characters are starting to deal with life on one side, death on the other side, & choice(s) in-between the two.
I have only seen 90% of the film (excluding the beginning), but this film was really good. One of the best films of the 1970s!
