Review of Dog Day Afternoon (1975) by Kyle M — 09 Dec 2014
It's a typical bank heist movie, but it's some how better than all the one's before it. Roger Ebert says, "Lumet is exploring the clichà (C)s, not just using them." It's a well scripted, well directed, and perfectly acted movie.
I can't find anything wrong with the actual making of the movie. I'm usually a sucker for "based" on a true story movies. This one is even considered to be very accurate. Props to Sidney Lumet and the writers for taking a run of the mill news story and making it a darn excellent movie.
The movie only lost a star because of the back story behind it. This was just some bum off the street, and he died a bum living with his mom despite the money he made from the story. It made him go from the hero he's portrayed to be in the movie back to the bum he really was.
