Review of Dog Day Afternoon (1975) by Carlos R — 16 Sep 2010
Not as great as many people say, but still is a very good film. From the very beginning you feel trapped by it, its simple but thrilling atmosphere is one of its bigger virtues. The whole film take place in a bank and a street, and there is a lot of suspense and good moments.
The script is perfect for a film like this. Maybe a little bit long (some scenes were longer than necessary) but it's a remarkable picture. Al Pacino is great here (overacting a little but he was great), though it's not his best performance.
.. not even close. John Cazale was very good too. Special mension to Chris Sarandon, an almost unknown actor, but in this film in only two scenes was that good that he was even nominated for an Oscar for this short performance playing a "woman trapped in a man's body".
.. Great his scenes. The whole film is very good, entertaining, interesting and thrilling, however no one can deny that it's very predictable, specially the ending; but it's not one of the best of the 70's, but maybe of the most entertaining films from that decade.
