Review of Dog Bite Dog (2006) by Lurple J — 27 Feb 2008
A grim, disturbing film about a dehumanized Cambodian hitman that crosses paths with a bitter, unbalanced young cop in Hong Kong.
The film is extremely violent, but the violence isn't glamorous and there's more going on in the story than just a body count. Both lead parts are extremely well played (by Edison Chen and Sam Lee), and both are given reasons for the things they do, however horrible.
This is not a martial arts movie; while there are some fights, they tend to be more vicious, dirty streetfights than anything, so don't go into this expecting a kung-fu flick. It's not really about the fights.
Definitely not for everyone, but for those in the mood for a gritty no-holds-barred film may like it.
