A true gem from the 30s. It does take a little while to get into this film and to appreciate the horrendous character of Mrs Dodsworth; initially I couldn't stand this character, but grew to appreciate her vulgar nature by the end thanks to a wonderful performance.

Overall the acting is superb and heartfelt, dialogue is wonderfully punchy and sharp, and the settings are beautiful. It's a shame the old cruise ship is no longer relevant in today's cinema as it makes a great melting pot for characters.

A beautifully constructed story that makes you appreciate classic cinema and the fresh approach advantage that was held at this time. It would be great to see a return to this era of storytelling and film. The scene when Mr Dodsworth is leaving on the train after his wife has asked for a divorce is perfection and a true classic line 'did I remember to tell you today that I adore you' wow, packs a punch. Thoroughly enjoyable.
