Review of DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story (2004) by Shane M — 31 Dec 2013
An amazing screwball comedy that is goofy yet effective. This film tells the story of Peter La Fleuer's having to raise $50,000 in order to save his gym Average Joe's from being closed down and sold to his rival White Goodman so that he can spread out his highly successful gym Globo Gym.
The film does role reversal from the traditional roles if Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller (Vaughn as the goofy guy, Stiller as the smart guy, now Vaughn as the smart guy, Stiller as the goofy guy). The film benefits from Rawson Marshall Thurber's direction and writing, silly dialogue, silly yet good acting (why did a Stiller get a Razzie nod for this role), silly situations, and over-the-top silliness that pays tribute but doesn't exactly live up to some other screwball comedies, but is still good.
The film is incredibly funny, and a must-see for audiences.
