Review of Doctor Zhivago (1965) by Justin S — 02 Aug 2010
Immense. After watching this one, I'm sure of it now. David Lean was able to control the weather.
In the end I didn't care much for the plot. At a certain point it just started to meander around with Yuri. I did not root for him so much as pitied him. What kept me watching was the pure spectacle of it, all beautifully captured. A train plowing through fresh snow. A wave of soldiers charging across a no man's land, every tree in sight ruined by combat. A multitude of Russians desperate to hop the next train out of the country.
