Review of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) by Mauro_Lanari — 23 Jun 2022
(Mauro Lanari).
The handover from Iron Man to Doctor Strange is not a simple transit of the trust from technoscience to spirituality: Marvel's spirituality is that of a Potter for the millennials (as well as the recent "The Batman" was a "Twilight" for the 40-year-olds), magic requires formulas, mysticism demands ritualistic arts, spells and sorceries must be carried out with ridiculous maneuvers of arms and hands that have nothing to share with naked and pure magical thinking. In parallel, the phantasmagoric explosion of the Raimi's staging corresponds to a miserable impoverishment of the motivations of the characters reduced to a spit, this time the entire multiverse is at risk because of a woman unable to live with the parental mourning of her two children. And the most terrifying thing about the film is the conclusive judgment expressed: "Sometimes, I do wonder about my other lives. Yet I remain grateful in this one, even with its tribulations." They always believe they are saving the world with their superpowers by renouncing to change it for the better: Disney opposes the Eleventh Thesis on Feuerbach and divulges dystopia.
