Review of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) by Lazypenguin — 18 May 2022
This was not a Doctor Strange movie/sequel - didn't have any of the consequences of his last appearance (NWH). For me, it tried too hard to be camp-y and while it worked in some cases, the jump-scares and and the zombification of Wanda (in the Illuminati) were too overdone for the superhero-style movies. I mean, she can fly right? why limp? because it looks "cool"?
There is little to none to enjoy in this movie if you don't like Wanda's character or Rami's directorial style. I was interested in Doctor Strange's character / story / growth and the "madness of multiverse" - both of which were not present in a movie that should have been about them.
Overall, I laughed AT the movie, not WITH the movie, which amounts to something but I was thrown too many times to actually enjoy it.
Yes, there was the "he has to be the one in charge" and the lesson was he "needs to let go of the knife" but it fell flat as it was repeated and not really shown how he learned it.
