Review of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) by Umaumai — 08 May 2022
I've seen and heard a lot reviews saying that the movie is entertaining, but disappointing. I didn't have that reaction watching this. I went in not expecting anything and felt like I got the closest thing to a horror movie Disney will ever make.
There are some parallels to director Sam Raimi's earlier films with books being at the center of the story. However, they ultimately they come off as little more than macguffins used to drive the plot to develop deeper ideas surrounding loss.
Because of the theme of loss there is a lot of character development for Strange and his supporting cast, but Olson's performance as Scarlet Witch really takes center stage for me. The visuals were spectacular and the music, by Danny Elfman, worked very well for its more macabre art design.
The only thing that I'd say is this is not for most younger kids. If you wouldn't let them watch a classic slasher flick then this will have moments that are too scary for them.
