Review of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) by Padlockewave — 07 May 2022
It's interesting to me that a lot of the reviews so far have been praising Sam Raimi's directing when it seemed to me like the weakest component of the film maybe only next to the writing and editing. All of the individual concepts (except the magic music note battle) could have technically worked without breaking immersion if handled by a better director, but all it did was consistently destroy any semblance of sense or continuity - and not in a fun multiverse way.
It wasn't even so bad it was funny like Drag Me To Hell, it was just genuinely painful to watch. Better make sure we kill off all the cameos so we're not tied down to fulfilling the promise we've made over and over to fans.
Tonally inconsistent, unsatisfying and hugely disappointing. I genuinely would rather see the entire MCU end today than have another film like this destroy what could have been some compelling storytelling.
